Abstract

T o evaluate the effect o f m ultip le ex­ aminers on caries prevalence measure­ m ents, tw o exam iners participated in a clinical den ta l caries test study, in w hich children fro m two similar schools used either a control dentifrice or a stannous fluoride dentifrice. O ne exam iner con­ sistently diagnosed greater increm ents of new caries fo r control and test subjects, even though he looked at about ha lf the num ber o f subjects as exam ined by the other dentist. N o conclusion could be draw n tha t one set of results was more accurate than the other. A n analysis of variance show ed a significant difference betw een exam iners, a significant d iffer­ ence betw een dentifrices, and no signifi­ cant interactions.
