Abstract

The experimental test PECHE HYDRAULIC designed to benchmark a fuel assembly hydrodynamic force model is described. The benchmark was carried out by comparing the measured assembly lift force against the force predicted by the analytical model. Some of the model assumptions regarding the pressure fields in the assembly bottom and top nozzles were also investigated. Additional objectives of the test were to improve the current methodology used to measure the pressure loss coefficients of the assembly components, to evaluate the effect of the thimble tubes plugging devices on the lift force and to investigate the variation of the hydraulic parameters of the fuel assembly at various Reynolds numbers.
