Abstract

The analysis of the spectrum of Yb III has been extendedallowing us toestablish 11 new energy level values. In addition, radiativelifetimes oftwo excited states of Yb III have been measured for the firsttime usingtime-resolved laser-induced fluorescence following two-photonexcitation. The good agreement between experimental results andsemi-empirical calculations performed with the relativisticHartree-Fock method including core-polarization effects allowsthe determination of transition probabilities for 15 lines.
