Abstract

Based on the coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method, a dynamic response simulation model was proposed for the impact of tire burst debris on the aircraft fuel tank cover structure, which fully considered the interaction between the fuel tank cover structure and fuel. At least three tire debris impact tests were conducted on a typical fuel tank cover according to the airworthiness regulation speed, and the effects of internal air pressure and tank sloshing of the fuel tank cover during the impact were investigated. Through the experimental and numerical analysis of fuel tank sloshing, fuel pressure and plastic strain, it was found that the increase of fuel volume and impact position would have a serious impact on the safety during the impact of tire bursting debris on the fuel tank cover, and may course the fuel tank leak. The test method in this paper meets the airworthiness requirements, and the proposed impact simulation method can be used in the structural analysis and optimization design.
