Abstract

In the present paper, both experimental and numerical results confirm that the method of fixed ribs on the outer wall of inside bend is a simple and efficient erosion protection method for protecting bends from erosion in gas-particle flows. Ribs are fixed on the bend in 20–80° and the material used (ribs and bend) is medium carbon steel. The numerical results show satisfactory agreement with the experimental data. From the numerical results, detailed analyses involving the impact velocity and incidence angle of particle–bend impact (including particle–rib and particle–wall) unveil the reason of the ribbed bend anti-erosion effect.
