Abstract

Flower-gusset composite (FGC) joint is a new type of joint composed of cover plates, ring flower body and beams, which has good mechanical properties. In this study, the bearing capacity formula of the FGC joint under single loading was derived through the analysis of previous tests and numerical analysis. The bearing capacity and failure modes of the FGC joint under the combined action of the in-plane loading (Fh) and out-plane loading (Fv) was nalysed by bearing capacity test. The simplified calculation formula of bearing capacity of the FGC joint under combined loading was verified by bearing capacity test and numerical analysis. The results show that the bearing capacity of FGC joints is significantly better than that of traditional gusset joints. The failure mode of FGC joints are ring flower body destruction and beam failure. Based on the bearing capacity test and numerical analysis, the simplified calculation formula of bearing capacity of the FGC joint under combined loading is fitted for engineering design.
