Abstract

The present study focusses on the adsorption properties on the surface of Na-X zeolite for the removal of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) and Brilliant Green (BG). The structure and morphology of Na-X zeolite has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area, Scanning electron microscopy and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The performance towards adsorption of RB5 and BG has been evaluated. Adsorption dynamics was studied by time variation and concentration variation indicates that the adsorption data follows pseudo second order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 25.3 mg/g at pH 2.0 for RB5 and 24.13 mg/g at pH 10.0 for BG dye, thus indicating chemisorption adsorption on the adsorbent surface. The AC and DC properties of Na-X zeolite was studied and showed a typical semiconductor behavior.
