Abstract

Building envelope plays a vital role in thermal performance of the building. Improving thermal properties of envelope reduce the total energy consumption of building. In this study, commercially available Gypsum based cow dung (Vedic)plaster was assessed for its energy efficiency by experimental and computational analysis. Physico-mechanical tests were performed as per IS 2547 part I and II (1976). Further, an energy analysis was carried out with the single storey residential building located at Nagpur. Vedic plaster has lower density and thermal conductivity that saves 24 % of operational energy as compared to conventional cement plaster. In addition, it saves water and energy as it does not require curing. The study concludes that the use of Vedic plaster enhances the energy efficiency of a building than the conventional plaster.
