Abstract

Large amounts of domestic solid waste is generated every day, and most of the organic wastes which come out of the houses are not segregated properly, because most people do not use organic waste due to lack of knowledge or time management. Here, an effort has been made to develop a compact biogas plant that can be used to produce biogas on a small scale that can fulfill the essential requirement of common people from urban and rural areas for cooking, operating engines, and electricity. After that, the test evaluation of four-stroke single-cylinder diesel engine and dual fuel (diesel + biogas) in different load conditions and different entry parameters of the engine is calculated. Brake thermal efficiency (BTE) was found to be around 18.36% in diesel fuel and 21.79% in dual-fuel (DF) mode; indicated thermal efficiency (ITE) around 33.47% in DF mode and 25.61% in diesel fuel; and volumetric efficiency (VE) about 79.34% was found in DF mode and 75.24% in diesel fuel. Brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and indicated specific fuel consumption (ISFC) were found to be slightly higher in DF mode.
