Abstract

ABSTRACT Heat transfer augmentation from the heat sink is an ever-lasting topic in thermal engineering applications. In this work, a detailed experimental study is carried out to see the effect of the addition of slitted rectangular fin on the natural convection heat transfer from the heat sink. The experimental tests were performed on plain rectangular fins and slitted rectangular fins configurations of the heat sink. Results found were compared for various heat inputs (25, 50, 75, 100, and 125 W). This work intends to address the validation of the experimental results of a plain rectangular fin with a standard correlation found in the literature. The experimental test results indicated that, an improved heat transfer coefficient (h) was achieved if the plate-fin heat sinks with slits are used. The total heat transfer was found to be increasing with slitted finned heat sink compared to plain rectangular fins. The overall improvement in heat transfer was found to be 58%.
