Abstract
The present work is focused on the utilization of biodiesel derived from when three different catalyst (NaOH, KOH, CaO) were used. The prepared biodiesel met the criteria of American Standard for Testing Materials (ASTM D6751) and European Norm (EN 14214). The biodiesel was mixed with diesel with different proportions in the step of 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% and used as diesel engine fuel. The engine was also run-on neat biodiesel to compare the results. The performance and emission characteristic of the diesel engine were analysed at different load conditions while different fuels were used. The improved results of break thermal efficiency at different load condition improvement were achieved with B20%, B40%, B60%, B80% and B100% biodiesel in comparison with diesel. The blends exhibited less emission and decrease in specific fuel consumptions. One more important observation was noticed that smoke density trends were in reducing direction when concentration of biodiesel increases in the blend.
