Abstract

The main objective of this analysis is to obtain a thin casting (Curved and Flat surface) product using the sand casting method. But the question remains why sand casting is not that suitable for thin components. Sand casting has been very difficult to implement due to improper filling and its high defect ratio. In the past decade, no research was conducted for cylindrical thin casting, but for the flat plate, there is some research done in different casting methods. In this paper, we have conducted a real-time experiment in the sand casting process by fixing some constant parameters with different thicknesses. The result concludes that by altering pattern material, pouring temperature, and gating system thin cast components can be obtained by the sand casting process. Some of the other casting processes such as permanent mold casting, LFC, investment casting process, and centrifugal casting process were also employed.
