Abstract

Debris flow is a very destructive flood. These floods mostly occur in high steep mountain areas, and cause lots of economic damages and live claims. The flood contains very dense mixtures of different grain size sediment. In recent years, open-check dams, specially slit dams, are widely used to control debris flows. Slit dams are one of the open check dams presenting one or several vertical openings, going from the dam's base up to the weir. The slit has decreased the dam sedimentation. Analyzing the results in this study shows because of the slit in these dams, sediment evacuation has been increased and Trap Efficiency (TE) has been reduced significantly. In this study, to indicate the sedimentation in the dam reservoir 25 experiment had been set up in a steep tilting flume (22 degree) for 5 width of slit and 5 different particle size, sedimentation is function of volume of the flood in the dam's reservoir, slit width and the particle size. After analyzing the sedimentation profile a dimensionless equations is proposed for the sediment distribution in these dam's reservoir.
