Abstract

Korean Artificial reefs(ARs) have developed 85 kinds by 2018 and installed them in the Korean coastal area. Korea’s AR technology has reached advanced levels through steady research performance and government investment. Recently, the ARs project is proceeding systematically considering the marine environment and biological characteristics, and there is an increasing interest in how ARs are placed for high functionality along with real sea condition. Research on the placement of AR is currently a conceptual step and is being installed in the real sea in order to verify biological effects on various ARs structure. Therefore, despite the fact that the arrangement method of the main installation direction of ARs is important for the stability of ARs, the research is insufficient. In this study, the stability of the four-step inclined AR in relation to the direction of installation was investigated through a 2D hydraulic experiment, and the settlement and deposition characteristics of the AR by scouring and subsiding stability were investigated. Experimental results show that the settlement of the AR was caused by the inflow and outflow of the porous part of the AR, and the deposition was highly measured in the side of the AR of the installation condition with the relatively large projected area.
