Abstract

This research deals with experiments on effects of heat treatment on the mechanical and microstructures behavior of AISI 1040 steel. To analyze the effect of different heat treatments, AISI 1040 samples were prepared through annealing at 950°C, stress annealing at 590°C, normalizing at 899°C and tempering at 316°C. Tensile test, surface integrity test and corrosion test were performed on the heat-treated materials. The tensile tests showed that annealing at 950°C, increases ultimate tensile strength and reduced ductility. From the results heat treatment modifies the physical and mechanical properties of steel
