Abstract

Wax deposition poses a significant challenge to flow assurance in the energy industry, with current measures falling short of effectively solving this issue. Herein, an oil-water batch transportation method based on flow management is proposed, which regulates both the flow and temperature fields and is expected to effectively solve the wax deposition problem from the point of view of the wax diffusion and deposition mechanism to achieve low-cost and high-efficiency anti-wax technology breakthrough. We verified the method's effectiveness through theoretical scrutiny and experimental analysis. Experimental results show that the process has a significant wax mitigation effect and even reduces deposition by up to 70% under dynamic conditions. This is also demonstrated by the wax deposition model developed in this paper, which analyzes the main factors affecting the method's effectiveness, such as temperature difference and flow rate. This groundbreaking approach to wax deposition mitigation represents a promising advancement for the oil industry, particularly in transporting wax-containing crude oil. It offers a novel solution to this longstanding challenge, providing a fresh perspective on tackling the issue.
