Abstract

In this paper, the hardness test, electrical properties test, accelerated weathering test and hydrophobic test are used to analysis and compare the properties with shed and housing materials for composite insulator. The results show that the hardness, surface resistivity, volume resistivity and AC breakdown strength of polyolefin materials are higher than silicone rubber. Particularly, the volume resistivity of polyolefin material is higher than silicone rubber with three orders of magnitude. After 1000h accelerated weathering test, the mechanical properties of the materials are decreased, the tensile strength of silicone rubber obviously decrease, which is 11.8% lower than untreated one. The mechanical properties of polyolefin materials after accelerated weathering test are better. Compared with silicone rubber, the surface roughness of polyolefin materials is smaller, the static contact angle of polyolefin materials is lower. But the hydrophobicity classes of both materials are HC1.
