Abstract
Abstract This note wrestles with the duality of embracing cultural tradition while expanding opportunities for women in the current educational era through a case study of an immersive January-term course for undergraduates. The course described was designed by two instructors and focused on traveling to a National Historic Site, which allowed exploration of intergenerational connections between women in the Appalachian region. The goal is a better understanding of how the past can inform the future, particularly in immersive educational experiences in Appalachian Kentucky.
