Abstract

This paper is the continuation of the article published in one of the previous issues (JEPTA 2009.2) which examines the experiences of the Holy Spirit in the development of spiritual life and Christian doctrine. It is an attempt by a contemporary Pentecostal reader to appreciate and understand the writings of the Early Church Fathers, paying special attention to the spiritual experience and emotional outpouring expressed in their teaching. Dealing with three representatives of the Eastern Church - Gregory the Theologian (part 1), Isaac the Syrian and Simeon the New Theologian (part 2). This paper addresses the questions that arise as ‘enthusiastic Christianity’ in modern Russian and seeks its roots.
