Abstract

Just about any personal computer that you buy today is multimedia-equipped. Two years ago, this statement did not hold true. The multimedia craze is upon us, and a plethora of educational and edutainment CD ROMs are being developed, distributed, and used. Multimedia will have tremendous impact in the education and training markets. Two years ago, the proportion of university courses surveyed using multimedia and CD ROMs in the classroom was 8%. Last year, this number doubled, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. This number is still low, but in the years ahead, there will be a surge in growth and use of multimedia for education and training on the Web or as standalone CD ROMs or Digital Videos. This paper addresses experiences in developing and deploying multimedia for the education market. Even though these are the author's experiences, they can probably be generalized to reflect similar situations by others. The hope is to convey to the reader some of the lessons learned and pitfalls, so that further insight is gained in the multimedia area.
