Abstract

Objective To investigate the application and effects of external fixator-damage control therapy in rehabilitation of orthopedic trauma.Methods 45 cases with severe pelvic fracture were given damage control therapy as observation group. Other 45 patients were selected as control without being given damage control therapy. In the observation group, external fixation was firstly used, and then, after conditions being stable, second stage open reduction treatment was also conducted. As for the patients in control group, only the first stage open reduction was carried out.Results Among the observation group,39 patients survived, 6 died. 30 patients survived and 15 cases died in the control group. The intraoperative blood loss, surgery time, recovery time of the body temperature, lactic acid clearance time, PT / APTT recovery time in observation group were significantly less than those of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The curative effects of damage control treatment are obvious with good prognosis, and worth being used popularly. Key words: External fixation; Damage control treatment
