Experiences of the reconstruction of sacral pressure sores with the parasacral perforator-based island flap

Abstract

Sacral pressure sores on 15 patients were repaired with gluteal perforator-based flaps. The pedicles of these flaps were parasacral cutaneous perforators originating from the lateral sacral artery. The flap sizes ranged between 5×7 cm and 10×24 cm. Postoperatively, there were no complications such as flap necrosis, wound infection, or hematoma. All flaps can be elevated with short operation time and little blood loss compared with other methods. The gluteal perforator-based flap can be applied to patients in poor general condition. Because this flap requires no sacrifice of gluteal muscles, ambulatory patients can be treated without postoperative complication.
