Abstract

Twenty-two patients (25 knee joints) with chronic hydrops of the knee joints due to either osteoarthritis or post-traumatic condition were the subject of this study. Pumping and irrigation of the joint with 500ml of saline with 6, 000 units of urokinase was compared with other types of treatments such as intra-articular injection of urokinase, cyclophosphamide as to clinical improvement and PSP excretion from the joint. The pumping and irrigation with saline containing urokinase proved to be the most effective clinically. The results well corresponded with the excretion rate of PSP from the joint.
