Abstract

The aim of the present study was to examine the use of GREENOXTM process in bleaching of kraft pulps. The GREENOXTM process is a method to bleach kraft pulps with molybdate-activated hydrogen peroxide. This process is a delignification method that can be installed in existing bleaching plants without no larger investments required.Circulation of the bleaching filtrates and dissolved organic material and removal of hexene uronic acids as a function of oxidant consumption was examined. The results indicate that hexene uronic acid groups are effectively removed. The reaction products of molybdate-activated peroxide do not consume hydrogen peroxide significantly when the filtrate is circulated.
