Abstract

The establishment of the political and administrative borders of Pskov oblast from the end of the 18th century to present day is analyzed. The efficiency of administrative-territorial division is determined based on the stability of external borders. The external borders are differentiated with allowance for antiquity and the duration of their existence, and their relationship is established. An integral typology of modern and historical borders of Pskov oblast is proposed. The old long-standing borders have played the greatest role in the region’s history for the past three centuries. Their predominance confirms the significant historical maturity of the territory and its integrity as an administrative-territorial entity.
