Abstract
This paper aims at discussing the need to formulate a bridge between a theory of language (Critical Discourse Analysis, for example) and research on {coteaching|cogenerative dialogue} as a means to not only understand participants identity transformation but also the power relations fostered in {coteaching|cogenerative dialogue} contexts. It is grounded in a socio-historical-cultural perspective of learning and critical discourse analysis. The results of such alignment, in this paper, are presented as a proposal for investigating the ways of exercising control in the ways of acting and interacting in {coteaching|cogenerative dialogues} or other collaborative and democratic environments. Cogenerative dialogue is characterized by encounters in which students and teachers participate in conversations regarding praxis that focuses on teaching and learning with the purpose to further develop existing understandings of the learning/teaching situation in order to build local theory and thereby increase the action potential of all participants (Roth, 2002a)
