Abstract

SMFM Criteria for diagnosis of fetal growth restriction (FGR) have expanded. In addition to estimated fetal weight (EFW) < 10 percentile, abdominal circumference (AC) < 10 percentile independent of EFW is diagnostic. A broadened definition expands testing, including umbilical artery Doppler (UAD) surveillance, to fetuses previously not diagnosed as FGR. UAD abnormalities are associated with placental dysfunction and adverse perinatal outcomes. We compared the likelihood of identifying UAD abnormalities in FGR fetuses defined by EFW with those defined by AC only.
