Veterinary surgeon John Chitty has a large avian/exotic pet/zoo animal caseload. He holds the RCVS certificate in zoological medicine and is president of the Veterinary Invertebrate Society. Here, he focuses on the African spurred or sulcata tortoise. Members of this species have become comparatively common pets in the UK since an importation ban on other species, but as a giant species they have special needs
