Abstract

Thermal stability of the Fe 80−xCr xB 20 ( x = 10,15,20) metallic glasses, produced by the single-roll melt spinning method, have been investigated by means of the EEE and DTA techniques. A comparison of the results of the EEE and DTA measurements shows clearly that the surface crystallization occurs at a temperature ∼150 K lower than the temperature of volume crystallization. The activation energy for the surface crystallization is also distinctly lower than that for crystallization in bulk.
