Abstract

Works of art cannot be attributed exclusively to the life histories of artists, yet it would be wrong to assume that the conditions of their production, be they of a social, technological, or personal nature, leave no traces in the work and are insignificant in its impact. This volume examines this relationship while considering a selection of international artists.
