Abstract
This chapter describes the basic principles of existential phenomenology as they find expression in existential therapy. The key principles of Inter-relation, Existential Anxiety and Uncertainty, following the work of Spinelli, E. (2015). Practicing existential therapy: The relational world . 2nd ed. Sage. are highlighted as particularly useful focus points. The related notion that various forms of psychological ‘problem’ can be also understood as ‘attempted solution’ to the existential dilemmas if living is also discussed. The various aims of existential therapy are then outlined. Different frameworks for ‘descriptive clarification’ of the client's world view are presented as practical resources to support existential therapeutic practice.
