Abstract

The existence of a hysteresis loop on the graph of single bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL) intensity with respect to sound pressure is discussed. A theoretical estimation was performed using the phase diagram of sound pressure and ambient radius for the various concentrations of air in water. The existence of the hysteresis loop was confirmed experimentally in the water at low air concentrations. Upon increasing the concentration of air in water, the hysteresis became smaller, shifted to the lower sound pressure range and eventually could not be observed. Taking these results into consideration, the effect of argon rectification in the bubble on hysteresis is discussed.
