Abstract

Stereo photography is perceived as the poor relation of nineteenth-century images. It is, perhaps, the sheer quantity of surviving material that makes even the bravest heart quail to think of properly mapping out what exists, and then making some sort of quality statement about the good, the bad and the ugly. ‘Don't go there!’ would have been my advice, timid and safe being my watchwords, as I steer along better-plotted photographic paths.
