Abstract

This paper presents the multi-objective optimization of two different geothermal binary power plants based on exergy, exergoeconomic, and exergoenvironmental analysis of the geothermal binary cycle power plant located at Ampallas area, West Sulawesi, Indonesia. The study compares two binary cycle systems: the organic Rankine cycle (ORC), with isopentane as the working fluid, and the Kalina cycle with an ammonia-water mixture in the system for power production. In this study, MATLAB is combined simultaneously with Engineering Equations Solver software to simulate both binary systems and to optimize three objective functions with the genetic algorithm method. It is demonstrated that the ORC system has the highest exergy efficiency with 82.12%, a unit cost of the produced energy of 8.19 US cent/kWh and a total environmental impact of 282.29 mPt/s.
