Abstract

Purpose: Exercise-related transient abdominal pain, commonly referred to as ‘stitch’, is experienced in a diverse range of activities from running through to horse riding. The pain afflicts up to 30% of participants in a community fun run and approximately 60% of runners have experienced it within the past year. Despite the prevalence of the pain, it has received little research attention until recently. The purpose of this symposium is to overview the series of contemporary studies that have greatly advanced our understanding of the pain.
