Abstract
This report concentrates on two aspects of an evaluation of the Stockport Exercise on Prescription Scheme: patterns of compliance, and changes in physical and mental health. Data were collected using a series of questionnaires at the first consultation, after ten weeks and again after six months of the scheme. Qualitative methods were also used to explore particular aspects of the project. A 60 per cent initial uptake rate was achieved, although compliance rates at ten and six months were disap pointingly low at 18 per cent and 14 per cent respectively. There were, however, very positive results in terms of improvements in mental and physical health for participants. The experiences in Stockport and the implications for similar schemes are discussed.
