Human Resource ManagementVolume 31, Issue 4 p. 385-392 Article Executive forum—the glass ceiling: Paradox and promises Cari M. Dominguez, Cari M. Dominguez Ms. Cari M. Dominguez was confirmed by the Senate on September 19, 1991 to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment Standards. In this capacity, she heads the largest agency in the Department of Labor, which has an annual budget of about $300 million. Dominguez provides leadership to nearly 4,200 executives, supervisors, managers, technicians, and support staff at the agency's national headquarters in Washington, D.C., and its 10 regional headquarters, including district, area, and field offices across the country. Dominguez has been the creative impetus for the Department's Glass Ceiling Initiative. As OFCCP Director, she launched the pilot glass ceiling reviews. Agency findings of these reviews were published in the August 1991 A Report on the Glass Ceiling Initiative. She holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in international relations from American University, Washington, D.C., and is a graduate of the advanced study program in public management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1992 she received the Woman of the Year Award from the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Takoma Park, Maryland, she lives in Gaithersburg, with her husband, Alberto, and their sons, Jason Drew and Adam Matthew.Search for more papers by this author Cari M.
