Abstract

Breast milk is the natural first food for human babies; it provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life. Although breastfeeding during the initial days of life has a significant influence on the degree of jaundice, amount of body weight loss, and the frequency of stool passage and urination, as reported by Chen et al,3 breast milk is proved to promote sensory and cognitive development and protects the infant against infectious and chronic diseases.
