Abstract

We investigate exciton–acoustic phonon interaction for both LA and TA phonons obtained from deformation potential and piezoelectric interactions in quantum wells. Exciton–acoustic phonon interaction operator is derived as a function of phonon wave vector q for both LA and TA phonons. The emission rates of LA and TA phonons due to excitonic relaxations are also calculated as a function of phonon wave vector, exciton temperature, exciton density, and well width in GaAs quantum wells. Our results show that LA and TA phonons are equally effective in the excitonic transition involving acoustic phonon emission in GaAs quantum wells.
