Abstract

The binding energy of the excitonic molecule in which the electron effective mass is light and isotropic and the hole mass is heavy and anisotropic is calculated by a variational method. The energy is found to lie between the two values obtained by replacing the anisotropic hole mass by the geometric mean and by the harmonic mean of its components.
