Abstract
The thermally activated exciton motion in the linear chain salt, CsMnBr 3, has been probed by investigating the spectroscopic properties of doped crystals. In crystals doped with Er 3+ excitons are trapped at the rare earth impurity while in crystals doped with Li + the excitons are trapped at “perturbed” Mn 2+ ions. The time dependent and steady state experiments indicate that exciton migration is three-dimensional at high temperatures (above 120K) but is quasi-one-dimensional at lower temperatures.
