Abstract

Effect of an electric field is investigated on the exciton luminescence of TlCl and TlBr by use of the modulation method. The characteristic features of the electro-modulated luminescence-excitation spectra are interpreted in terms of the field-induced dissociation effect of the direct-excitons and the perturbation effect of the indirect-forbidden excitons. The radiative decay process of excitons is discussed in relation to the band structure of thallous halides.
