Abstract

The cross section for delayed fission for the /sup 238/U(n, n')/sup 238/U/sup m/ reaction at 14.5 MeV neutron energy has been measured using an annular plastic track detector in a recoil geometry. Seven runs each of 50 hours neutron bombardment were made on a /sup 238/U target and each run was followed by a similar irradiation of a /sup 232/Th target to determine the background. A statistical model calculation for the isomer excitation function has been made and compared with the present measurement at 14.5 MeV and reported data near the threshold of the reaction.
