Abstract

Relativistic distorted-wave calculations are carried out for the excitation of all the np5(n+1)p J = 1, 2 and 3 states of neon (n = 2), argon (n = 3), krypton (n = 4) and xenon (n = 5) from the ground np6 J = 0 state by spin-polarized electrons. Results are reported for the integrated state multipoles of the different excited states for incident electron energies up to 300 eV. Using the integrated state multipoles for the excited states of neon and krypton, the integrated Stokes parameters are evaluated and compared with recent experimental measurements.
