Abstract

Inelastic collisions of electrons with lutetium atoms leading to the formation of singly-charged lutetium ions in excited states have been studied experimentally. 117 excitation cross-sections have been measured at 50 eV exciting electron energy. 16 optical excitation functions have been recorded in the 0-250 eV electron energy range. The total excitation cross-sections of energy levels and the contributions of cascade transitions to their population have been calculated on the basis of the experimental results.
