Abstract

The electrophysiological effects of Qp receptors activation in brain neurons are investigated in rat hippocampal slice preparation. Quisqualate, in the presence of a ionotropic quisqualate receptor antagonist that does not block Qp receptor activation, produces a depolarization associated with an increased membrane resistance. All results indicate that the recently identified glutamate Qp receptor subtype may play an important role in the regulation of neuronal excitability by excitatory amino acid transmitters
