Abstract
Natural tungsten was irradiated with 22-Mev deuterons. Three species of radioactice tantalum were observed due to the following reactions: W/sup 184/(d, alpha )Ta/sup 182/; W/sup 18/ s/sup 6/(d alpha )Ta/sup 184/; and W/sup 186/(d, alpha n)Ta/sup 183/. The chemical separation of these nuclides was performed by selective liquld-llquid extraction with di-isobutylketone in hydrofluoric- hydrochloric acid medium in the presence of tantalum carrier. Absolute tantalum activities were determined by means of a calibrated end-window Geiger tube. Results are tabulated. (C.H.)
