Abstract

We investigated the surface structure of the excimer laser ablation by the microphotoetching of dried and swelled collagen films using atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements. We characterized the roughness of the etched surface by topographical analysis. The thermal effect of the collagen was investigated from the changes in the amide I band of the debris by ATR method using FT-IR spectroscopy. Especially, we studied the time-resolved photographic relations inorder to determine the mechanism causing the difference in the excimer laser ablation between the swelled and the dried collagen films.
