Abstract

We derive restrictive conditions on the approximate form of the exchange–correlation (xc) energy functional of the current density functional theory (CDFT). These conditions are effectively used in checking the validity of the vorticity expansion approximation (VEA) formula of the xc energy functional. The VEA formula is shown to have a physically reasonable form from the viewpoint of satisfying a lot of restrictive conditions. The explicit forms of xc potentials are also derived from the VEA formula. The xc potentials are tractable and can be readily utilized in actual calculations.
