Abstract

Dynamic n.m.r. studies have shown that the barrier to exchange of the bridging and terminal hydride ligands in [Co(terpy)(H2BH2)](terpy = 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridyl) is 11.1 (±0.1) kcal mol–1, the highest value measured to date for a bidentate H2BH2– complex. Solutions of the complex are diamagnetic within the limits of the n.m.r. method of measuring susceptibilities.
